The star has a special significance because on Christmas Eve, the first star of the night "little star" is deemed the remembrance of the Star of Bethlehem and as soon as it appears in the night sky, friends and family gather to exchange greetings and good wishes. All of this occurs before partaking in the Wigilia, which are the twelve dishes cooked to signifying the 12 days of Christmas, a meal in which friends and family sit around the table and dine together.
