Known as the "most exciting two minutes in sports" the tradition of the Kentucky Derby's "run for the roses" is one of the oldest and most popular thoroughbred racing events, held the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs. The blanket of roses draped over the winner is a beautiful ceremony and a moment of glory for the three year old thoroughbred, jockey, horse trainer and farm or stable that raised the horse. It is the only horse race that has run every single year since 1875 with no hiatus. Secretariat ran the race with the fastest time, Donerail won with the worst odds (91 to 1), Ben A. Jones being the only trainer to win 6 times and horses from Calumet Farm being crowned champions 8 times it is the most anticipated horse race.
