I have a friend who ran her first marathon this year and I wanted to mark the occasion with a special Christmas ornament. This was just what I was looking for! Very cute, with her name and year on the back of the shoes!

The marathon began when Greek soldier Pheidippides ran from the Battle of Marathon to Athens, a distance of 26 miles 385 yards. Since 1896 it has been a modern Olympic event. Today, recreational athletes run in over 500 marathons around the world.
