The reason why the pelican is a symbol of self-sacrifice dates to an ancient legend in which during a famine, the pelican cared so deeply for her young that she gave them her own blood to prevent their starvation, perishing in her love for her children. This personalized pelican ornament is a beautiful addition to your holiday decorating, especially for someone who decorates with a Florida or tropical themed tree. Used in heraldry, the pelican is a symbol of Jesus per an ancient legend and were representative of death and afterlife in Ancient Egypt. With their unique throat pouch, these water birds are fun to watch them catch fish and eat them.
