Tap tap tap! This woodpecker uses his powerful beak to tap, drill and drum into tree bark to get the insects and bugs that live in there for food. An important anatomy, the stiffened tails of these birds are used as a prop to hold them on to the tree while they forage and are used for climing. While these pecking birds can be a nuisance for homeowners with wood siding, these birds are fun to watch because they are unique in which they climb trees horizontally. Their traditional black, blue and white coloring has a splash of red plumage on their head that makes them unmistakable to birdwatchers. This personalized woodpecker ornament is a great gift for someone who is a big fan of having them in the backyard and watching them drill into trees for food.
