Related to the modern day elephants but so much larger, the prehistoric woolly mammoths whose remains have been found the best preserved in frozen climate of Siberia and their bones indicate that they were still roaming the Earth in 1700 BC. Famous for their thick layer of shaggy hair with a fine layer of wool underneath, they were well suited for cold weather conditions with a layer of blubber like a whale to keep them insulated. Their extremely long tusks of 16 feet were curved to use as shovels to clear the snow to get to the ground vegetation of tundra grass eaten for food. A personalized woolly mammoth ornament is a great gift for anyone into prehistoric animals and dinosaurs.
