Ceramic Graduation Hat Christmas Ornament
Personalized Christmas Ornament
Dimensions: 4" x 2 1/4"
Named after the hawk that bricklayers used to hold mortar, this mortarboard hat has been used by graduates in the United States since 1950 when they were used for master's degrees. Now the hat is used for bachelor's degrees and undergraduates as half of the cap and gown that are worn when graduates cross that stage and accept their diploma. With the traditional tassel attached to the hat, customs vary depending on the high school, college or university whether the tassel is worn on one side of the hat and then switched to the other side after receipt of their diploma and confirmation that they have officially graduated.
