Did you know that the Most Common Birthday in the United States is September 16?  And that the 2, 3 and 4 most common birthdays also occur in September (9th, 23 and 17th, respectively)?  If you take into account studies that have shown that the typical gestation period has now changed from 40 weeks to 39 weeks, you can see that more babies conceived at Christmastime than any other time of the year!

In order to celebrate this booming baby phenomenon in September, I will show you how to make Newborn Baby Ornaments that you can display year after year on your Christmas tree for or keep in the nursery as a keepsake.  Make one of these for each of your children or grandchildren to keep their birthday mementos safe and remembered over time.  It is very easy to do and doesn’t require many supplies or much time, but will be a lasting treasure to commemorate your baby’s birth.

How To Make Birthday Newborn Baby Ornaments

Here, we show you how to make newborn baby ornaments as a keepsake of your new bundle of joy’s birthday at the hospital.  In order to make it more memorable, fill this ornament with items from the hospital that you kept for your baby’s memory box.

Supplies:

• Plastic ornament that opens
• Newborn baby hat from the hospital
• Hospital band from baby’s birthday
• Beads
• Wire
• Scissors
• Ribbon
• Paint marker
• Glue dots

Newborn Baby Ornaments Steps 1-4

Step 1: First, using the paint marker, personalize the newborn baby ornaments with baby’s name, birthday, time, weight and length.

Step 2: Next, while your personalization is drying, cut a piece of wire that you will use for the name.  The size will be dependent on how many beads you want to use as well as the length of baby’s name.  Thread the beads on in order to spell baby’s name.  Once you have them all on, bend the wire to secure the beads into a ring or circle.

Step 3: If you use beads with other colors on them, such as the red hearts we used here, you can use the paint marker to color in the hearts or change the colors of the letters to match baby’s gender.

Step 4: Now the personalization on your newborn baby ornaments should be dry, so you can fill the inside of the back piece of the ornament with the hat, hospital band and beaded name ring that you just made.  Secure with glue dots once you have the proper placement.

Newborn Baby Ornaments Steps 5-7

Step 5: Once everything is in and secured, put the cover of the ornament on and close.  It is important to make sure that nothing is stuck in the seam or your newborn baby ornaments can pop open.  If it doesn’t feel secure, you can add a dab of glue.

Step 6: Now it is time to cut the ribbon into a bow and tie it through the holes at the top of the ornament.  This will keep the two halves of the ornament from separating.

Step 7: Finally, it is time to put the finishing touches on your newborn baby ornaments.  We used a blue heart bead and glued it to the center of the ribbon.  If you don’t want the ends of your ribbon hanging loosely, you can secure them with glue dots.
