Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day With Melted Pony Beads Shamrock Ornaments

Pony Beads St. Patricks Day Ornament-Featured

I adore the many colors of green on the Emerald Isle, so in order to capture that essence, I decided to use Pony Beads for ornament crafting to make a unique green shamrock ornament! Don’t you love the color of St. Patrick’s Day decorations?

Typically, crafts that use pony beads use pipe cleaners and string, however, the look drastically changes when you melt them in the oven! I chose to work with clear green pony beads, but you can use solid colors for this St. Patrick’s Day decoration for a completely different (but great as well) look.

How to Make Pony Beads Clover Ornaments For St. Patrick’s Day

Kids love pony beads crafts, so why not make this unique DIY for St. Patrick’s Day? They only take a few minutes to make and require only 3 simple steps.  Therefore, there is nothing standing in your way!

Supplies:
• Cookie sheet
• Tin foil
• St. Patrick’s Day metal cookie cutter
• Green pony beads
• Ribbon
• Scissors
• Glue
• Paint marker for personalizing

Important Notes For Melting Pony Beads

  • Note: You must use a METAL cookie cutter for this project, because a plastic one will melt along with your pony beads.
  • Note: Because you are melting plastic, it is important to make sure that you are working in a well-ventilated area. If you are concerned, you can use an outdoor grill or plug in a toaster oven outside to do this project.

Step 1: Cover the cookie sheet with foil and place your metal cookie cutter on top of the foil. Then fill your cookie cutter with only ONE layer of pony beads. As you can see from the picture, we turned them sideways so the holes are sideways, in order to fit them into the cookie cutter shape.

Step 2: Heat your oven to 450 degrees and then bake for 5 minutes, WATCHING the entire time. Some ovens work differently, and you don’t want to burn the plastic, therefore it is important to keep an eye on the melting process. After they have melted flat, you can then take the cookie sheet out of the oven and let it cool. Once you are able to safely handle it, put pressure on the melted pony beads, and then the shape should just pop out of the cookie cutter.

Step 3: Cut a ribbon for hanging the ornament and glue it to the back. Once the glue is dry, you are ready to hang your St. Patrick’s Day ornament!
