Upcycle Vintage Jewelry: A DIY Wedding Ornament That Can Be Uniquely You

A DIY Vintage Jewelry Wedding Ornament | OrnamentShop.com

Vintage Jewelry is an elegant and exciting Wedding Ornament trend! Rather than “recycling,” this trend is also called “upcycling,” because you increase the quality of the item when it’s re-used. Many brides are opting to make their bridal bouquets entirely with vintage jewelry and satin ribbon. These are some of the most unique, exquisite, and dazzling nosegays for a walk down the aisle that’s one to remember!

The hunt to find just the right vintage jewelry to keep with your wedding theme takes careful planning and many trips to antique stores, garage sales and estate sales. Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue can all be found when you raid your grandmother’s jewelry box to find just the right pieces to complement your wedding day with a DIY wedding ornament.

Step 1: Remove the ornament cap and pour some paint into the glass ball ornament and swirl around until the entire inside is coated, then turn upside down on a paper towel to allow any excess paint to drip out of your wedding ornament.  We used a combination of ivory and pink paint for a blended look.  To help coat the inside with paint faster, place your thumb securely over the hole and gently shake.

Step 2: Using the pliers, remove the hardware on the backs of the vintage jewelry brooches, earrings, pins, etc.  Remove sections of bracelet if needed.

Step 3: One by one, glue the vintage jewelry pieces to the wedding ornament, making sure to hold each piece in place until the glue sets.  Once you have all of the vintage jewelry on the ornament, set it aside to let the glue dry completely.

Step 4: Glue vintage jewelry to the cap as well.  Or, this would be a great place to add a pretty ring.  We cut a bracelet to look like a ring.

Step 5: Tie a ribbon to the top in your wedding colors or other matching color and embellish the ends of the ribbon with vintage jewelry if desired.
