August 10 is National Smores Day, so what better way to celebrate than creating Smores Ornaments that you can use as keepsakes to remember every campout of the year.  Made popular in the 1920s by Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, smores are a treat that everyone loves to eat.  Campfires aren’t complete without roasting marshmallows, stacking them on top of a piece of chocolate and sandwiching that goodness between two graham crackers for a taste people crave.

Smores ornaments can be made in 7 easy steps with glue paint felt and popsicle sticks!  It is a fun craft to do with the whole family, scout troop or grade school classroom project.  If you want each one to represent a memory, use the paint markers to write on the back of the popsicle sticks.  So cute to personalize smores ornaments with a name too!

How To Make Campfire Smores Ornaments

Smores ornaments are a great craft for a group with inexpensive supplies and they can be created in 7 easy steps, mainly cutting and gluing.  Great project for a classroom, Girl Scout troop or outdoor family gathering.

Supplies:

• Craft popsicle sticks
• Tacky glue
• White paint
• Paintbrush
• Light brown felt
• Dark brown felt
• Scissors
• Hole puncher
• Ribbon
• Pink paint marker
• Black paint marker

Campfire Smores Ornaments Steps 1-4

Step 1: Glue three popsicle sticks together, side by side, next to each other.  Let the glue dry.

Step 2: Paint the front of the popsicle sticks with white paint, because this will be the marshmallow.

Step 3: While the paint is drying, cut two rectangular strips (about even in size) out of the light brown felt.  Then, cut a smaller rectangular strip from the dark brown felt.

Step 4: Using the hole puncher, cut a hole in the middle top of one of the lighter brown rectangular pieces of felt.

Campfire Smores Ornaments Steps 5-7

Step 5:  Now it’s time to glue the pieces of your smores ornaments together.  The two light brown pieces of felt represent the graham crackers and should be the top and bottom.  The top is the strip with the hole in it.  The dark brown piece of felt is the chocolate and should be glued over the “marshmallow” and under the “graham cracker” on the bottom.

Step 6: Use paint markers to make a face on your smores ornaments.

Step 7:  We’re almost done!  Now cut a strand of ribbon, feed it through the hole in the felt and tie a knot at the top.

That’s it!  Now you have made fun smores ornaments that are so easy to make, you can do many at one time!  Give them out as party favors for an annual cookout.  Or, have your Girl Scout troop make these to remember a camping adventure, or simply add a pin to make them cool SWAPs.  You can even decorate a marshmallow-roasting bonfire with friends, by hanging a bunch of smores ornaments on a tree.
