Snowflake Ornaments Steps 1 – 4

Step 1: Using the exacto blade, poke the tip the bottle approximately ½” from the base.  Holding the bottle with one hand, carefully slide the knife all the way around the bottle, slowly rotating the bottle in your hand, until the bottom comes off.   The ends do not have to be perfectly even.

Note: This plastic bottle craft works best with water bottles, because the plastic is thin and easy to cut.  Soda bottles have a thicker plastic and will be more challenging to cut.

Step 2: Next, blot any water droplets that remain in the bottom with a paper towel and recycle the top parts of the water bottle.

Note:  If your plastic is wet, your paint will thin and not spread evenly, and your glue may not adhere properly.

Step 3: The first part of the plastic bottle craft is to coat the inside of the bottom with glue.  We left gaps to see easily see the design through the other side, as well as give the snowflake ornaments some dimension.

Step 4: While the glue is wet, shake your glitter onto the glue and gently press to help it stick.  We used the paper snow with glitter to give it a bit of texture.  It is OK to overfill as the remaining “snow” will simply fall off.

Snowflake Ornaments Steps 5 – 8

Step 5: Once the glue is dry, shake off any remaining “snow”.  Now it’s time to paint the outside of your Snowflake ornaments.  Flip your snowflake ornaments over.  Because the water bottle bases have grooves in them, it is easy to follow these crevices with your paintbrush to keep the design consistent.  Let them dry.

Step 6: Next, using the hole puncher, punch a hole in each of your snowflake ornaments.  It is important to make sure that the paint and glue is dry prior to punching the hole, or your puncher could get messy.
